Psychic Friend – “My Rocks Are Dreams”

“…there isn’t a bad track on this album. It is unique and of the moment. It’s Will Schwartz growing into himself and continuing to make great music.” – Lindsey Whitefield

I recently made a most epic 1990s playlist to share with Beth Yeckley, one comprised entirely of the songs that made up my mix tapes in the last decade of the 20th century; a playlist that would not have been complete without a track from Imperial Teen’s 1996 release, Seasick.

You can imagine my excitement to get a hold of Imperial Teen vocalist and guitarist, Will Schwartz’s latest project, Psychic Friend. Their debut release is My Rocks Are Dreams, and you need to own this album.

Psychic Friend is the very best of Will Schwartz (also of hey willpower), who with has proved his staying power as a pop musician. My Rocks Are Dreams is pop music for 2013, an entirely modern album that sounds like sunny days in California and late nights in smoky bars.

It’s refreshing to hear dance music built on the piano, with but a tasteful amount of synth. My favorite tracks (if I force myself to pick) are “Water Sign”, “Shouldn’t Have Tried Again”, and “Once A Servant” (also check out the remix from YACHT)…but there isn’t a bad track on this album. It is unique and of the moment. It’s Will Schwartz growing into himself and continuing to make great music.
