Chillwave Could Be Just a Short-Lived Fad
Hipster Runoff had an interesting article today about Pitchfork believing chillwave is coming to a respectable end. Probably the most impressive indie rock band of our generation, Arcade Fire’s large sound, alone, may bring an end to the super-popular chillwave genre. And I think this is a good thing. Don’t get me wrong, TBI is a major fan of chillwave artists like Neon Indian, Toro y Moi, Washed Out, and Nite Jewel, but I’d hate to see the craze of this new genre distract music lovers from the absolute power behind the explosive sound of bands like Arcade Fire. I mean, let’s be real here. Watch the two videos below and tell me what gets you more excited.
I think the chill wave artists are tired of Chill Wave. I’m not sure if all of these artists saw their Chill side projects ever getting them as big as it did.
You can’t say a whole genre is going to die because the artists within it don’t have as exciting of live sets as some other band. Arcade Fire has made alot more money then anyone within the Chillwave genre and being that alot of the chillwave artists are one man projects they have to hire all of the performers on stage.
I just watched the LCD video from Bonno and nobody was crowdsurfing neither were the crowd chanting the chorus but they never have. He has been making the same music for a good long time, his area of music isnt going anywhere.
I think its stupid how these blogs have fads. They try and pull their massive power around making these idiot kids who listen and dress how they are told, feel the same. “Oh hey guys, remember chillwave, yeah, we dig metalcore now.”

its all recycled material…things will always come back around..fads i cant get into much..the 80s had much better music than this entire chillwave mess
