“I am pleased to partner with Peter Conlon and Live Nation to bring Music Midtown back to our city,” said Mayor Reed. “Piedmont Park is a world-class venue that is perfect for a world-class music festival. This is an event that will bring energy and excitement to midtown and attract music lovers from across the city and state.”

“It is exciting to finally announce the return of Music Midtown.  Cities are defined by events like this and it is important to Atlanta to have a major music festival again,” explains Live Nation’s Peter Conlon. “Major music events spotlight new talent and national favorites and most of all bring communities together.  It is exactly what Music Midtown does.”

This year, a portion of the proceeds from Music Midtown 2011 will go toward funding recreation centers and after-school activities for young people in the city as part of Mayor Reed’s Centers of Hope initiative. Many of the city’s recreation centers and pools were closed in recent years due to budget cuts. During his first year in office, Mayor Reed reopened every recreation center in the city and began the process of transforming them into ‘Centers of Hope’ – safe, structured centers where young people can bolster their academic skills, engage in robust physical activities and develop character-building traits.
