Wanee Festival 2013 – Featured Artist: Beebs and Her Money Makers

beebs and her money makersProclaimed “indie-cosmic-funk” from Orlando, Florida, Beebs and Her Money Makers have been cutting across the South East for the past few years sharing their unique groove with the masses. More recently, Warped Tour creator Kevin Lyman hand-picked the band to be a part of the upcoming 19th annual festival that zig-zags from coast-to-coast, and has in recent years, had a much stronger focus on bands that stray away from anything with a double-bass pedal.

Beebs and co. will be kicking things off at the upcoming Wanee Festival in Live Oak, Florida, and as one of the younger groups of artists on the bill, we thought it appropriate to chat with her about their upcoming tours, a new album that’s in the works, and more.

I chatted with Beebs before the band headed to Live Oak, where they’ll be performing tonight (April 17th):

The band has a unique Summer tour schedule this year – moving around the traditional festival circuit before heading out for Warped Tour. Will this mark the first year on Warped Tour and are you prepared for the differences compared to the more laid-back weekend fests?
Yes this will be our first year on the Vans Warped Tour. Although it is a much different vide than the traditional camping festivals we are really looking forward to discover more new music and reaching a new audience of Super Heroes. The line up of this years Warped Tour is very diverse, so it should be an epic summer!
wanee2013_0You’ll be playing at Wanee Festival as part of their kick-off on the 17th of April. As one of the “younger” bands on the lineup, will you all be able to spend some time checking out the heavy-hitters of the weekend?
But of course! We are very privileged to have this as our second year playing Wanee. The line-up this year is incredible! We’re really looking forward to Maceo Parker, Les Claypool, Dirty Dozen, Dumpstaphunk, Tower of Power and one of my most recent favorites- Monophonics!
Speaking of Warped Tour, the band is currently holding a fundraiser to help with costs on the road. What can you tell us about it for people that wish to help out?
We are a completely DIY band. From booking, managing, promotions, graphics, to fundraising. It is important to us to stay as independent as possible. We are constantly coming up with new and creative ways to involve our fans in the show and with fun promotions. Our current fundraiser is to help cover the costs of tour- food, gas, bus rental, merchandise, etc. You can currently help by donating $5, in return you will receive a digital download of our new album that drops May 30th. We also have other packages available that include custom hand painted kazoos and custom voice mails.
The band will be releasing a new album in May, correct? Walk us through the recording process and what can be expected when the album comes out..
We had a great time with this album and recorded it locally at Studio 18. Expect nothing but everything. We are holding nothing back with this release. The album release will be at The Beacham in downtown Orlando. Come dressed as your own Super Hero for the chance of YOUR character being featured in our next comic book!
We’re loving some of the bands coming of Florida right now. Hundred Waters, Roadkill Ghost Choir, Day Joy, Have Gun Will Travel.. just to name a few.. Who else should we have on our radar?
Kaleigh Baker, Ancient Suns, Apple Butter Express, Funky Nuggets, Katie Burkess and The Ruby Rays, MyVerse, The Sh-Booms…. goodness there are so much amazing music coming out of Florida right now!
