With the release of their forthcoming LP just days behind them, Athens’ own psych-rockers New Madrid plan to commemorate the busy road ahead and anticipated sophomore Sunswimmer with a record release bash on Friday, February 28 at East Atlanta’s The EARL.

Behind the scenes, Sunswimmer [thankfully] stuck to its successful local roots — releasing with hometown Normaltown Records (an imprint label of New West Records) and masterfully engineered by the talented Athenian, David Barbe (Deerhunter and Drive-By Truckers). At first listen, Sunswimmer offers a similar gamut of creativity and approach that’s reminiscent of their Yardboat sensation — vigorous guitar-happy solos (“Manners”) mixed with a catchy harmony-laced (“Forest Gum”) flow. Throw in a couple lengthy drawn-out jams (“And She Smiles”) and behold a summarization of simple truths: plenty of continuing success lies [closely] within their grasp.

New Madrid plans to cut loose and set sail after the show by continuing on an extensive spring tour through the Southeast, Midwest, SXSW, and almost every other corner of the country.

Warm up with their new lead single “Manners” on Spotify. Support at The EARL will come from Atlanta’s own The N.E.C. and Twin Studies.
