Red Carpet Music & Film Event takes the Grand Opera House stage
Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Macon’s Grand Opera House will be the hottest venue in town Tues., Nov. 15, during Gateway Macon’s gala event to unveil the winners of two competitions: Macon Music and Macon Shorts.

Macon Music competition encouraged songwriters/musicians to submit an original song that included Macon in the message. Entries came in from all over the country, and Macon’s own Kevin “Floco Torres” Williams was announced the winner during September’s celebration of Otis Redding’s 70th Birthday at the Macon City Auditorium. Rock & Reel will include the CD release party for his new 3-song EP, during which he will perform his winning entry “Cherry Street” live on the 15th.

Macon Shorts competition brought filmmakers from around the country to Macon to create and submit short films (10 mins max) with a minimum of three locations shot in town. The top three finalists have been selected and their films will be shown on the 15th before the winner is announced and awarded the $3,000 first place cash prize. Finalists include: ‘Superhero’ by Kristin Wright, ‘The Razzle’ by Joseph Guay, and ‘Final Acts’ by James Kicklighter.

Also at the event, the entire ensemble from “A Little More Soul” – the award winning Macon anthem introduced by Gateway Macon through its website, www.itshotterhere.com, will perform it live on stage. The all-star group includes Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell, Violin Virtuoso Robert McDuffie, Grammy nominee Tony Reyes and rapper Sonny Spoon.

Tickets for the event are $10 per person, and may be purchased at the Grand Opera House box office or www.thegrandmacon.com.
