It’s been about six months since Sharon Van Etton and band visited Atlanta, but not much has changed about their act. She played with the same backing band and delivered a setlist almost identical to the one from her April 2012 show. That’s not a complaint – if it ain’t broke…
Sharon has a knack for joking between songs, making observations about fans in the crowd (this time she commented on a “cute sweater” and an “excited couple”), and keeping a constant smile throughout. The relationship she creates with her listeners only amplifies the intimacy of her songs. You feel her pain in “I’m Wrong” and want to go on the offensive with her in “Serpents.”
I’m willing to bet most of those at the show will be back in six to nine months when she returns on another tour. The setlist may change but Van Etten’s charisma will not. Here’s hoping the venue doesn’t change either.
