Off of their latest and perhaps most admirable release, “The Clay, the Seed, the Stone,” Georgia’s own, Besides Daniel, gives us a beautiful, little gem called, “Stay.” The listener gets an up-close and personal glimpse into the love-life of Danny Brewer and Susanne O’Day, who use the moniker “Besides Daniel” for their music. It is this passionate love-fight content in “Stay” that perhaps makes it one of Besides Daniel’s most unique creations.

The duo’s repertoire of songs, in sum, depict situations that relate to daydreams, faith, and adventure, so it’s certainly a pleasant surprise to hear their perspective on love-relationships. With “Stay,” Brewer and O’Day manage to do something that only the great songwriters have accomplished. They masterfully trigger a great variety of emotions– some clothed with a cold, even bitter premonition that a break-up may be on the horizon. And perhaps most impressive, Brewer and O’Day stifle us with a bridge that essentially lets us know that, in actuality, their “fights” are precisely what makes their love so strong. “Stay” is about a fight, a raw fight that results in a couple better for it. The song will put chills on your spine making you feel cold, hot, numb, sensitive, bitter, and pleasant all at the same time. Easily some of Besides Daniel’s most impressive work. In layman’s terms, “Stay” will make you “get up outta yo chair.”
