With their fourth release available for all to hear, Besides Daniel really outdid themselves with this one. I don’t claim to be the modern-day Prophet Isaiah, but consider this a prophetic prediction from a modern-day writer who knows good music when he hears it: “The Clay, The Seed, The Stone” will be the record that Besides Daniel refers to as the sling-shot that slung them into a world of blissful success. The record is actually a 5 song EP with the tracks listed as, “The Field,” “Harvesting Stones,” “Buckets,” “Stay,” and lastly, “Peace Is A Comin.” After listening to the record a few times, you get the idea that songwriter/vocalist, Danny Brewer, is this sage that everyone is anxious to crowd around hoping that some of his wisdom will rub off on them. A young man in his mid-twenties, Brewer is wise beyond his years, especially when considering the mind-blowing subjects he speaks so confidently about in his music. Subjects, such as God, journeys,  and peace, are elements that we see in the vast majority of records all across the board, but it is the way that Brewer deals with these subjects that is perhaps what is most admirable. As soon as you pop the CD into your player, it is easy to think that you’ve stepped into a mess. In fact, you have. A load of unstable chaos. A mess of emotion, confusion, frustration, peace, love, and moodiness. Magically though, Brewer weaves all of these ingredients together and its result is a stiff medicament that purges the listener of any hindering thoughts of doubt, anger, and hopelessness. The last track, “Peace Is A Comin,” by itself, replaces these unwanted demons–doubt, anger, and hopelessness– with a great sense of tranquility. “The Clay, The Seed, The Stone” is full of milky melodies and perplexing lyrics that will, undoubtedly, satisfy your spirit.
