Acoustic Alley: MATRIMONY

Screen shot 2013-08-19 at 6.25.34 PMThere’s something about a family forming a band and touring together. The band Matrimony— based out of Charlotte, NC– consists of husband/wife duo Jimmy and Ashlee Brown alongside Ashlee’s brothers, Jordan and C.J. Hardee. This group as it stands is still young, but truly, they have a headstart that normally takes most bands years to finally arrive. After an EP and a few short tours, the record label mecca of all record labels–Columbia Records– flew in to catch a local show of theirs and were so impressed, it wasn’t long the band realized a dream come true. The “folking fantastic” (if they still have this t-shirt in stock, buy it!) folk-rock group landed their first major record deal.

It should be noted that each of the band members has experienced success as part of other acts. The folks here at The Blue Indian had no doubt that it was just a matter of time for this group in particular, though. Many of us have watched this band grow up as the act, Matrimony, and seriously, it’s been amazing to watch.  You may remember seeing them covered here when they’ve played Georgia shows in the past. And if you attended any of those shows prior to them landing the deal with Columbia, you remember all too well the collective hairs standing up on the arms of everyone in the room as they blew the roof off The 567, during their debut in Macon, GA.

Over the years, the band has certainly taken notice of their rabid fanbase here in Middle Georgia and as a result, Screen shot 2013-08-19 at 6.20.09 PMthey ever so kindly saved their best for last, as their show back on July 13th of this year was the closing knot of over a month of being on the road. And fittingly, they blew the minds of their fans to a sold-out house at The Hummingbird Stage & Taproom.

Before the show, our friends at Dynes Media produced perhaps our favorite Acoustic Alley session to date. Both songs performed in the alley– “Obey Your Guns” and “Mecklenburg Co. Jail” can be purchased on iTunes as part of their 4 track debut EP on Columbia Records entitled “Montibello Drive.” Enjoy the session.
